Amen Thompson
Thompson records another double-double Sunday
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 3:45 PM
Amen Thompson had 16 points (5-of-6 FGs), 11 rebounds, five assists and one block against the Bulls on Sunday.
Analysis: Thompson was questionable with a quad injury, but suited up. The game was a blowout and he only played 22 minutes, but he still had a big impact. He had a double-double and dished out five assists. Thompson will continue coming off the bench, but if he can play close to 30 minutes per game he should be rostered in all formats. Houston has four games upcoming in Week 5, so he's a good pickup in leagues where he's still available.
Alperen Sengun
Sengun has second straight triple-double Sunday
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 3:41 PM
Alperen Sengun had 20 points (9-of-15 FGs), 11 rebounds, 11 assists and two blocks against the Bulls on Sunday.
Analysis: Sengun's triple-double was his second in as many games. He joined Nikola Jokic as the only two centers age-22 or younger with consecutive triple-doubles since the merger. Sengun has also quietly had at least two blocks in six of his last eight games after only having at least two blocks in a game nine times all of last season. He continues to average career-highs in rebounds and blocks, while his offensive numbers haven't been quite as good as last year. Sengun is a fantasy stud when everything is clicking. The Rockets have four games upcoming in Week 5.
Fred VanVleet
Fred VanVleet drops 28/7/7 line in big win Sunday
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 3:35 PM
Fred VanVleet had 28 points (10-of-16 FGs), seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and three 3-pointers in the Rockets' 143-107 victory over the Bulls on Sunday.
Analysis: FVV has started to turn around his season with a double-double on Friday against the Clippers and a 28/7/7 line on Sunday against the Bulls. The Rockets aren't going to score 143 points every game, but VanVleet did all of his work in 28 minutes. He's starting to pay off his Yahoo ADP of 38. Houston has four games upcoming in Week 5.
Amen Thompson
Amen Thompson (quad) available Sunday vs. Bulls
Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 11:39 AM
Jonathan Feigen
Amen Thompson (right quad soreness) is available for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Analysis: Thompson is good to go after the Rockets classified him as questionable on the initial injury report. He'll take on his usual role within the rotation, providing quality fantasy value despite coming off the bench.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams (knee) ruled out vs. Chicago Sunday
Sat, Nov 16, 2024, 9:34 AM
NBA Injury Report
Steven Adams (right knee injury recovery) will not play against the Bulls on Sunday.
Analysis: Adams has been in and out of the lineup all season, and when he hasn't played, Jock Landale has filled the void as the backup center. That will be the case on Sunday, though Landale won't play enough to consider streaming.
Amen Thompson
Amen Thompson (quad) questionable vs. Bulls
Sat, Nov 16, 2024, 9:32 AM
NBA Injury Report
Amen Thompson (right quad soreness) is questionable to play against Chicago on Sunday.
Analysis: Thompson hasn't missed a game yet this season, but if he were to be forced to sit out on Sunday, there would plenty of bench minutes to go to Tari Eason, Reed Sheppard and Aaron Holiday. Sheppard has struggled to start his rookie year, but this could be a good opportunity for him to take advantage of some extra playing time.
Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun records 16/10/10/2/2 triple-double
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 6:27 PM
Alperen Sengun recorded a triple-double with 16 points (3-of-9 FGs, 9-of-10 FTs), 10 rebounds, 10 assists, two steals, two blocks and one triple against the Clippers on Friday.
Analysis: This wasn't a monster triple-double, but it still qualified. This was Sengun's first of the season and a new season-high for assists. The added defensive production was nice, and his work at the free throw line made up for a poor field goal percentage. Sengun has been a subpar free throw shooter throughout his career, so seeing him make nine of his 10 attempts was unexpected but nice to see. Sengun is averaging career-highs in rebounds and blocks, but some of his other numbers have dropped from last season. If he can start to improve on some of those (points, field goal percentage), his 9-cat value, will skyrocket.
Fred VanVleet
Fred VanVleet puts up 18/7/10/2 line with 4 threes
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 6:19 PM
Fred VanVleet stuffed the stat sheet on Friday with 18 points (7-of-15 FGs), seven rebounds, 10 assists, two steals and four 3-pointers against the Clippers.
Analysis: FVV hasn't gotten off to a strong start to this season, but this was one of his better performances. He shot the ball well and recorded a double-double for the second time this year. He was a team-best +39 in his 33 minutes, and he posted one of his better field goal percentages this season. There were plenty of concerns about VanVleet's first handful of games, but he has been better as of late. He's slowly climbing up the 9-cat rankings, and while he may not get back to being a second-round producer, he should get closer to his Yahoo ADP of 38.3.
Jabari Smith
Jabari Smith Jr. posts 28/11 double-double vs. LAC
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 6:06 PM
Jabari Smith Jr. led the Rockets with 28 points (11-of-17 FGs), 11 rebounds, one assist, two steals and five 3-pointers in a 125-104 win over the Clippers on Friday.
Analysis: Simply put, Smith has not been good to start this season. This performance raised his field goal percentage to 41.5% and his 3-point percentage to 29.7%. This was only his second double-double of the season and his second 20-point game of the year. This was a new season-high for points and steals, and he tied his season-high for triples. This is the type of player that they need him to be, and the player that fantasy managers were hoping for when they drafted him. He'll look to keep this going in Chicago on Sunday.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams (knee) available Friday vs. Clippers
Fri, Nov 15, 2024, 1:37 PM
NBA Injury Report
Steven Adams (right knee injury recovery) is available for Friday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: Adams is available and will slide into the backup center role. While this drops Jock Landale out of the rotation, Adams will not get the opportunities needed to impact fantasy basketball. Leave him on the waiver wire.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams (knee) questionable Friday vs. LAC
Thu, Nov 14, 2024, 1:01 PM
NBA Injury Report
Steven Adams (right knee injury recovery) is questionable for Friday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: Whenever Adams plays, he serves as Alperen Sengun's back and does not get the minutes needed to impact fantasy basketball. If he remains sidelined on Friday, Jock Landale would be the next man up, but he also is not worth rostering in fantasy leagues.
Fred VanVleet
Fred VanVleet scores 15 points in return to lineup
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 4:31 PM
Fred VanVleet finished Wednesday's win over the Clippers with 18 points (6-of-19 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), five rebounds, five assists, two steals, two blocks, and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes.
Analysis: Back in the lineup after a one-game absence, VanVleet struggled with his shot on Wednesday. However, the rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks were solid in terms of fantasy value. The most significant concern thus far has been the scoring, with VanVleet's average (13.4) being four points lower than his mark from last season (17.4). Add that to the low field-goal percentage, and that's why VanVleet is ranked just outside the top 75 in 9-cat formats.
Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun posts 13/11/6/1/4 line vs. Clippers
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 4:30 PM
Alperen Sengun tallied 13 points (6-of-14 FGs), 11 rebounds, six assists, one steal, four blocks, and one 3-pointer in 30 minutes in Wednesday's win over the Clippers.
Analysis: Sengun may not have done much scoring on Wednesday, but the rebounds, assists, and defensive stats more than made up for it. He recorded his third straight double-double, and the four blocks matched his season-high. Over the last week, Sengun has been a top-30 player in 9-cat formats, improving his season-long value.
Jalen Green
Jalen Green leads Rockets with 21 points vs. LAC
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 4:30 PM
Jalen Green shot 7-of-21 from the field and 2-of-3 from the foul line in Wednesday's win over the Clippers, tallying 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two 3-pointers in 36 minutes.
Analysis: Green didn't have a great night shooting the basketball, but fantasy managers should know what they will get from him by now. The positives were the rebounds, assists, and points, with the seven boards being the most in a game for Green since Halloween (season-high 12 vs. Dallas). The shooting inefficiency is why he's ranked just outside the top 100, with Green shooting 38.5% from the field. It shouldn't take too much effort for him to crack that threshold.
Tari Eason
Tari Eason records 18/10/1/1/2 line vs. Clippers
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 4:30 PM
Tari Eason accumulated 18 points (8-of-14 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and two blocks in 26 minutes in Wednesday's win over the Clippers.
Analysis: Eason recorded another complete stat line, with Wednesday's double-double being his first of the season. Despite the consistent production off the bench, he's rostered in just 40% of Yahoo leagues. Eason may not be able to maintain top-50 value for the rest of the season, but he needs to be rostered in more leagues.
Amen Thompson
Amen Thompson records double-double, full line
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 4:29 PM
Amen Thompson shot 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from the foul line in Wednesday's win over the Clippers, scoring 18 points with 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals, one block, and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes.
Analysis: Fred VanVleet's return meant Thompson would come off the bench, but the lineup change did not have an impact. The second-year wing still played starters' minutes, and he finished with a double-double and a complete stat line. Thompson is rostered in 70% of Yahoo leagues, with the bench role having much to do with that. If he can consistently hit (or exceed) 30 minutes, the value and rostered percentage will increase.
Jock Landale
Jock Landale (shoulder) available for Wednesday
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 1:33 PM
NBA Injury Report
Jock Landale (left shoulder strain) is available for Wednesday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: With Steven Adams (knee) out, Landale will be in the rotation as the backup center. However, there aren't many minutes available in that role, so there's no need to roster him.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams (knee) ruled out vs. Clippers
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 1:33 PM
NBA Injury Report
Steven Adams (right knee injury recovery) has been downgraded to out for Wednesday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: Adams played on Monday, but he'll be sidelined for this game. He doesn't play a large role when healthy, which means that Jock Landale will fill out the few backup center minutes behind Alperen Sengun.
Fred VanVleet
Fred VanVleet (hamstring) available Wednesday
Wed, Nov 13, 2024, 12:22 PM
Jonathan Feigen
Fred VanVleet (left hamstring soreness) is available for Wednesday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: VanVleet is back after sitting out Monday's win over the Wizards. His return means Amen Thompson will return to the bench, but he should still be rostered wherever possible.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams questionable, Jock Landale probable
Tue, Nov 12, 2024, 12:47 PM
NBA Injury Report
Steven Adams (right knee injury recovery) is questionable, while Jock Landale (left shoulder strain) is probable for Wednesday's game against the Clippers.
Analysis: Adams' status is more impactful, as he'll be the backup to Alperen Sengun if available. As for Landale, he only factors into the rotation on nights when Adams does not play.
