Jalen Green
Jalen Green scores 22 of his 34 in third quarter
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 5:14 PM
Jalen Green led Houston with 34 points (13-of-22 FGs), six rebounds, three assists, one steal and four 3-pointers in a 133-113 win over the Pelicans on Thursday.
Analysis: Green did most of his work in the third quarter of this game. He scored 22 points in the period, which was the highest-scoring quarter of his career. With how well Amen Thompson has played, there have been plenty of questions about how long Green will maintain the starting shooting guard job. Consistency has always been the issue for Green, since he is capable of performances like this, but he had 12 points on sub 40% shooting in each of their last two games. Managers should enjoy this stat line, but don't expect this to continue to be the norm.
Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun records 23/9/7 line vs. Pelicans
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 5:03 PM
Alperen Sengun shined on Thursday with 23 points (10-of-14 FGs), nine rebounds, seven assists and one block against New Orleans.
Analysis: Shooting efficiency has been an issue for Sengun this season, but that wasn't the case in this game. Sengun made over 70% of his shots for just the second time this season and was still able to approach triple-double territory. His scoring has been down, which is directly correlated to a 5.6% drop in his field goal percentage. As that continues to correct, Sengun will approach top-25 status in 9-cat leagues. He has had one of the best seasons of his career, but there is still plenty of room for him to get even better.
Dillon Brooks
Dillon Brooks scores 26 points with six threes
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 4:41 PM
Dillon Brooks lit up the Pelicans with 26 points (10-of-16 FGs), seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and six 3-pointers on Thursday.
Analysis: Brooks didn't do much scoring after the break, but he made a huge impact early on. He scored 20 of his 26 points in the first half, which helped Houston take a 14-point lead into halftime. Despite being an elite defender, Brooks isn't able to get enough defensive stats to contribute in 9-cat leagues. Nights like this are great, but they certainly haven't been the norm for him. Brooks isn't worth adding off the waiver wire in standard leagues, even if he played well in this game.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams (ankle) available vs. Pelicans
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 1:44 PM
NBA Injury Report
Steven Adams (left ankle sprain) has been upgraded to available for Thursday's matchup with New Orleans.
Analysis: Adams will be good to go despite exiting early from their last game. He won't play enough to impact fantasy basketball, but he will be available off the bench.
Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun (knee) upgraded to available vs. NO
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 1:35 PM
NBA Injury Report
Alperen Sengun (left knee soreness) has been upgraded to available for Thursday's matchup with the Pelicans.
Analysis: Sengun will play through this knee ailment, which means that he still hasn't missed a game this season. He'll take on his usual role, which means no starting nod for either Steven Adams or Jock Landale.
Tari Eason
Tari Eason (leg) downgraded to out Thursday
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 1:35 PM
NBA Injury Report
Tari Eason (left lower leg injury management) is out for Thursday's game against the Pelicans.
Analysis: Eason was a game-time decision for Thursday's game, with the Rockets ultimately deciding to hold him out. His absence frees up minutes for some of Houston's reserves, with Aaron Holiday in line to benefit. However, he is not worth streaming.
Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun (knee) game-time decision vs. NOP
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 12:27 PM
Ime Udoka told reporters Thursday that Alperen Sengun (left knee soreness) will be a game-time decision for Thursday's Rockets-Pelicans game.
Analysis: Sengun is in danger of missing his first game of the season. Steven Adams (ankle) has been in and out of the lineup and is also questionable, so Jock Landale could be asked to step into a starting role.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams (ankle) to be game-time decision
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 12:24 PM
Jonathan Feigen
Steven Adams (left ankle sprain) went through shootaround on Thursday and will be a game-time decision against the Pelicans.
Analysis: Adams exited earlier from their last game with an ankle sprain, which resulted in him being questionable for this matchup. He'll have a chance to play, but if he doesn't Jock Landale may play a few minutes in his absence, which won't have an impact on fantasy basketball.
Tari Eason
Tari Eason (leg) questionable Thursday vs. Pels
Thu, Dec 19, 2024, 12:23 PM
NBA Injury Report
Tari Eason (left lower leg injury management) is a game-time decision for Thursday's game against New Orleans.
Analysis: While Eason is a game-time call for Thursday's game, the expectation is that he will play, according to Rockets coach Ime Udoka. The third-year forward has been a valuable fantasy option this season, sitting a few spots outside the top-50 in 9-cat per-game value. If Eason cannot play, Aaron Holiday may pick up a few more minutes off the bench.
Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun corrals 11 rebounds in loss to OKC
Sat, Dec 14, 2024, 5:28 PM
Alperen Sengun shot 6-of-16 from the field and 0-of-1 from the foul line in Saturday's loss to Oklahoma City, tallying 13 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 32 minutes.
Analysis: Sengun didn't shoot the ball well in Las Vegas, but the rebounds and steals helped compensate for that deficiency. Over the past two weeks, the Rockets center has shot 46.3% from the field, less than one percentage point lower than his mark for the season (47.2%). In short, there isn't too much for fantasy managers to lose sleep regarding Sengun, who remains comfortably within the top-50 in 9-cat formats.
Jabari Smith
Jabari Smith Jr. posts 14/6/3/1/1 line vs. Thunder
Sat, Dec 14, 2024, 5:27 PM
Jabari Smith Jr. played 39 minutes in Saturday's loss to Oklahoma City, finishing with 14 points (3-of-8 FGs, 6-of-7 FTs), six rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block, and two 3-pointers.
Analysis: Outside Amen Thompson, none of the Rockets shot particularly well in Saturday's NBA Cup semifinal, as they made just 36.5% of their looks on the night. Smith didn't have the best night, but the production in other categories was solid. Over the past two weeks, only two Rockets have provided top 100 per-game value in 9-cat formats: Smith and Alperen Sengun. Smith remains a late-round player in terms of value, but he's recently made modest steps in the right direction. Houston plays two games in Week 8, beginning with New Orleans on Thursday.
Amen Thompson
Amen Thompson scores team-high 19 points in loss
Sat, Dec 14, 2024, 5:27 PM
Amen Thompson accounted for 19 points (9-of-15 FGs, 1-of-3 FTs), seven rebounds, one assist, and three steals in 30 minutes in Saturday's 111-96 loss to Oklahoma City.
Analysis: Will there come a point when Thompson moves into the starting lineup? Probably not anytime soon, but nights like Saturday will keep the chatter going. While Thompson was excellent in 30 minutes off the bench, starting guards Fred VanVleet (8/9/7/1 with one 3-pointer) and Jalen Green (12/3/2/0/1 with one 3-pointer) combined to shoot 8-of-29 from the field and 2-of-19 from three. Even as a reserve, Thompson should be rostered in most fantasy leagues. However, it's fair to wonder if his ceiling is being limited through no fault of his own.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams (ankle) will not return Saturday
Sat, Dec 14, 2024, 4:58 PM
Adam Wexler
Steven Adams (left ankle sprain) will not return to Saturday's game against the Thunder.
Analysis: Adams sprained his ankle during the third quarter of Saturday's game, with team trainers taking him back to the locker room for further evaluation. With the veteran center sidelined, the Rockets went small in the minutes played before Alperen Sengun returned to the floor. Jock Landale may enter the rotation if Adams misses time, but the Rockets' ability to play small makes him a non-factor in fantasy basketball.
Dillon Brooks
Dillon Brooks (illness) available Saturday vs. OKC
Sat, Dec 14, 2024, 1:44 PM
Jonathan Feigen
Dillon Brooks (illness) is available for Saturday's game against the Thunder.
Analysis: Initially questionable for Saturday's NBA Cup semifinal, Brooks has officially been cleared to play. He'll take his usual place in the starting lineup and draw the assignment of defending Canadian national teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Dillon Brooks
Dillon Brooks (illness) questionable for Saturday
Fri, Dec 13, 2024, 2:35 PM
NBA Injury Report
Dillon Brooks (illness) is questionable for Saturday's game against Oklahoma City.
Analysis: Brooks has yet to miss a game this season, but that could change with his appearance on the injury report ahead of Saturday's NBA Cup semifinals. Amen Thompson would likely move into the starting lineup if he cannot play. However, it will likely take a lot to prevent Brooks from taking on the challenge of defending fellow Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Amen Thompson
Amen Thompson has 10/5/3 line off the bench
Wed, Dec 11, 2024, 6:33 PM
Amen Thompson had 10 points (5-of-7 FGs), five rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks against the Warriors on Wednesday.
Analysis: Thompson was efficient as he made 5-of-7 attempts from the field. Big for a point guard at 6-foot-7, he pulled down five rebounds in 29 minutes. Thompson certainly has more fantasy value when Fred VanVleet is out, but it's not like he isn't fantasy viable when VanVleet is in either. Given VanVleet's shooting woes this year, it's worth wondering if the Rockets might consider putting the ball in Thompson's hands more.
Fred VanVleet
Fred VanVleet struggles in return from knee injury
Wed, Dec 11, 2024, 6:25 PM
Fred VanVleet had eight points (3-of-13 FGs), two rebounds, seven assists and two 3-pointers against the Warriors on Wednesday.
Analysis: VanVleet struggled in his first game back after missing Sunday's game with a right knee contusion. He had just eight points on 13 shots and turned the ball over four times. VanVleet was -5 in 36 minutes as the Rockets beat the Warriors by one. His shooting continues to be a problem for his fantasy managers this year.
Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun has 26/11/5 line in win over GSW
Wed, Dec 11, 2024, 6:21 PM
Alperen Sengun had 26 points (10-of-18 FGs), 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals in the Rockets' 91-90 victory over the Warriors on Wednesday.
Analysis: Sengun was just five assists shy of a triple-double after starting the day listed as questionable with left knee soreness. After having a breakout season last year, the 22-year-old center is a top-40 player in fantasy this year.
Steven Adams
Steven Adams (knee) will play Wednesday vs. GSW
Wed, Dec 11, 2024, 1:52 PM
Steven Adams (right knee injury recovery) is available for Wednesday's game against the Warriors.
Analysis: Adams doesn't impact fantasy basketball with Alperen Sengun (knee) also available. He'll serve to backup Sengun Wednesday with Jock Landale losing minutes off the bench.
Alperen Sengun
Alperen Sengun (knee) will play Wednesday vs. GSW
Wed, Dec 11, 2024, 1:50 PM
Alperen Sengun (left knee soreness) is available for Wednesday's game against the Warriors.
Analysis: Sengun was originally listed as questionable, but will ultimately suit up Wednesday against the Warriors. The Rockets won't have to change their starting lineup with Sengun and Fred VanVleet (knee) active.
